Donald Holzworth (Chairman)

Chairman, Futures Group International

Don is the former Founder, Chairman, and Chief Executive Officer of Constella Group, a $200 million global enterprise providing health consulting services in 61 countries around the world. In August 2007, he completed the sale of Constella to SRA International, Inc.; Don is also the Founder and Chairman of Expression Analysis, Inc., and Chairman of Casey Petraceuticals, LLC, a pet nutrition products company. Don also serves on the Presidential Advisory Council on HIV/AIDS, he is on the Board of the Accordia Global Health Foundation and the Campbell Alliance Group, and additionally he is an Executive in Residence at the University of North Carolina Gillings School of Global Public Health.

J. Adam Abram

President and Chief Executive Officer, James River Group, Inc., Chapel Hill, NC and Chairman, Franklin Holdings (Bermuda) Ltd., Hamilton, Bermuda.

Adam served as Chief Executive Officer and director of James River Group, Inc., a NASDAQ-listed company, from its inception in 2002 until its sale to Franklin Holdings in December 2007. In 1992, Abram founded Front Royal, Inc., an insurance holding company for which he served as CEO until it was sold in 2001. Prior to founding Front Royal, Inc., Abram founded and served as President of Adaron Group, Inc., a developer of approximately 2 million square feet of commercial property in North Carolina. Abram serves or has served on the board of Human Rights First; the board of Carolina Independent Publications, Inc.; the board of directors of the North Carolina Housing Finance Agency; the North Carolina Economic Development Board; the Durham Arts Council; the Board of Visitors of the University of North Carolina; the board of the Self-Help Credit Union Venture Fund; the board of the Triangle Land Conservancy; and the board of advisors for WUNC Public Radio. Abram also serves on the Finance Committee for the National ACLU.

Al Childers, PhD

Venture Partner, Southern Capital Ventures

Al is the former world-wide president of administration for Cardinal Health Pharmaceutical Development. Al co-founded Magellan Laboratories and engineered the sale of it in April 2002 to Cardinal Health, a Fortune 500 company. Prior to his tenure at Magellan Pharmaceutical Development, Al was invited to help build the Pharmaceutical Development Division of Glaxo, Inc. There he built and directed the Inhalation Analysis Department and was also responsible for analytical development of solid and parenteral products. In 1998, Childers was named a Carolinas Entrepreneur of the Year by Ernst and Young. He has received two awards from the Council for Entrepreneurial Development (CED), the 2002 Entrepreneurial Excellence Award and the 2002 Deal of the Year Award. Al has authored over 40 articles and presentations in the area of pharmaceutical and analytical science. Al is a venture partner for Southern Capital Ventures and serves as an advisor to several early-stage life science companies.

George (Barney) Koszalka, PhD

Chief Development Officer, Argolyn BioScience

Barney is a senior executive at Argolyn BioScience with more than 20 years of international experience creating new pharmaceutical products. He has extensive experience managing pharmaceutical R&D, joint ventures, business development, product development and medical marketing. He has initiated and advanced 13 programs to preclinical projects, and five to clinical candidates. One is in Phase III, and one is in the marketplace. He has contributed in a significant manner to the discovery, development and/or lifecycle management of 12 marketed drugs.

Myla Lai-Goldman, MD

Managing Partner, Personalized Science, LLC

Myla has more than 20 years of clinical laboratory medicine experience. In 2009, she became managing partner of Personalized Science in Chapel Hill, N.C., a company seeking to help customers adopt innovative diagnostics to meet patients’ unmet medical needs. She is also an adjunct professor in the Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine at the University of North Carolina School of Medicine. Prior to her current position, she spent 18 years at Laboratory Corporation of America, Holdings, serving in progressively more responsible positions including Executive Vice President, Chief Medical Officer and Chief Scientific Officer. Her experience includes serving on the executive committee of a national reference laboratory with strategic and operational responsibilities for three major genomic laboratories. She is a recognized author and speaker on clinical diagnostics. Myla is board-certified in anatomic and clinical pathology and earned her MD from Columbia University.

Steve McPhail

President & Chief Executive Officer, Expression Analysis, Inc.

Steve has spent his career serving companies in the diagnostic, biotechnology and medical device markets. He previously acted as Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer of ArgoMed, Inc. Earlier, Steve held senior-level sales, marketing and business development positions for Xanthon, TriPath Imaging, Dynex Technologies and Abbott Laboratories. He has extensive experience in executing mergers and acquisitions, developing strategic marketing plans, and establishing global distribution networks. He serves on the board of the NC Children’s Hospital and the Pediatric Inflammatory Bowel Disease Network.
