The GeneChip® system from Affymetrix is widely recognized as the gold standard for microarrays. This system allows RNA expression profiling and DNA analysis, providing an integrated, systems biology approach for viewing the genome at a global level or focusing on a specific set of genes. Sets of 25-mer oligonucloetide probes are synthesized directly on quartz wafers, which are later assembled into GeneChip® cartridges. The probes are designed to determine whether the complementary sequence is present in the DNA or RNA sample. Pairs of perfect match and mismatch probes are often used to identify nonspecific hybridization. Each expression or genotype measurement is based on the results from a collection of different probes representing the same gene. This probe set design provides multiple, independent measurements of the same target. Expression Analysis fully supports the Affymetrix platforms including utilizing Affymetrix’s GeneTitan TM when fully automated array processing from target hybridization to data generation are desired.
