Expression Analysis Selected to Provide Illumina Genotyping Services for the Serious Adverse Events Consortium

Durham, NC (October 24, 2007) —  Expression Analysis, a leading global provider of genomic services for clinical trials, announced today that the Company will serve as the exclusive phase one whole-genome genotyping laboratory for the Serious Adverse Events Consortium (SAEC). Initial studies will rely on Illumina’s Human 1M DNA Analysis BeadChip, which can interrogate more than one million genetic markers per sample.

The SAEC is an international collaborative effort between the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA), several pharmaceutical companies and academia to identify genetic biomarkers that may predict which individuals are at risk for drug-related adverse events.  In September 2007, the group announced that its first project will focus on liver toxicity using samples provided by DILIGEN and EUDRAGENE, two European clinical research networks.  “The SAEC is pleased to initiate services with Expression Analysis,” said Arthur Holden, Chairman of the SAEC.  “The Scientific Management Committee, under the leadership of Eric Lai [GSK] and Duncan McHale [Pfizer], independently evaluated many competing proposals and selected Expression Analysis based on its extensive “quality system” and service track record.  The Committee also appreciated Expression Analysis’ ability to offer analytical services on a variety of genomic platforms in a “good laboratory practices environment”.”

“We are delighted to assist our pharmaceutical clients in generating pre-competitive genomic data, which should lead to safer and more efficacious drugs,” said Steve McPhail, President and CEO of Expression Analysis.   “The SAEC recognized the value Expression Analysis provides and we are happy to contribute to this important effort.”    Expression Analysis achieved Illumina CsPRO certification for both Infinium genotyping and whole-genome expression profiling earlier this year.  In addition to offering Illumina BeadChip® services, the company performs Affymetrix GeneChip®, Luminex xMAP®  and Applied Biosystems' TaqMan® assays for clinical trials and clinical research in a regulatory compliant (GLP and CLIA) environment.
